Singer Veronica Swift and pianist Emmet Cohen are always up for a challenge.
“Lover, Come Back To Me” is a standard that is frequently taken at a fast tempo, but only a few renditions have been as rapid as the one played on Cohen’s weekly livestream.
Veronica Swift somehow sounds effortless as she states the melody with backing by bassist Russell Hall before scatting up a storm in an explosive chorus with Cohen, Hall and drummer Kyle Poole.
Emmet Cohen creates a very impressive solo that includes a bit of his wit, Poole has a spot on brushes, and finally the quartet romps through the melody and closing vamp with plenty of fireworks.
