Manana – 1951

Peggy Lee

A memorable version of a Peggy Lee hit

Peggy Lee during her prime years (roughly 1943-68) was a constant surprise, stretching herself beyond swing to perform originals, blues, novelties, pop songs, and jazz standards, all in her quietly sensuous voice.

The quintessential cool-toned jazz singer, Peggy Lee often had real fun in her performances including on her hit “Manana” which features her husband guitarist Dave Barbour.

Forget the stereotyped outfits and that Lee was from the Midwest (rather than South America); this clip (a Snader telescription from 1951) is a delight.
