Drummer Steve Gadd has long been one of the busiest studio drummers in the business, uplifting the music of nearly every major artist at one time or another.
While usually a very busy sideman, Gadd has occasionally led groups of his own through the years.
In 1985 while in Holland, he headed a quintet that also included trumpeter Ack Van Rooyen, George Young on soprano-sax, pianist Warren Bernhardt, and bassist Eddie Gomez.
The group performs Bernhardt’s “Manhattan Update,” an uptempo number that, after some short solos (including from the composer), has an impressive statement from Gadd.
