A quietly witty blues

Trumpeter-flugelhornist Shorty Rogers was a major force in jazz, particularly as an arranger, composer and bandleader in the 1950s.

The 1962 version of Shorty Rogers and his Giants also included Gary Lefebvre on reeds, pianist Lou Levy, and two musicians who had opportunities to work with the Bill Evans Trio in 1963: bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Larry Bunker (who became a member for two years).

With Rogers on flugelhorn and Lefebvre on flute, they play the leader’s whimsical blues “Martians Go Home” with each musician having an opportunity to solo at least briefly.
