“Mwandishi” was Herbie Hancock’s ninth album, released two years before his crossover “Headhunters” album.
You can hear the Miles Davis influence throughout the track.
Buster Williams bass is featured throughout this tune. Herbie plays the melody on the Rhodes and switches to the piano for his solo. Eddie Henderson plays an homage to Miles. Billy Hart takes a solo.
