Pianist Hank Jones (1918-2010) was so consistent throughout his long career that it was easy to take his excellence for granted.

Originally inspired by Art Tatum, Erroll Garner and Bud Powell, Jones found his own voice by the mid-to-late 1940s and had a busy 65-year career.

On this version of Horace Silver’s “Nica’s Dream,” Jones is in typically sparkling form, leading a trio with bassist George Mraz and drummer Billy Kilson, both of whom also have opportunities to solo.
