The most popular Dixieland group of the 1950s, the Dukes Of Dixieland caught on at the beginning of the decade and continued on until the early 1970s.
Frank Assunto was an excellent trumpeter, his brother Fred Assunto on trombone often stole the show with his extroverted movements, and the group had a series of fine clarinetists including Pete Fountain and Jerry Fuller.
The 1959 version of the band included clarinetist Jack Maheu, pianist Stanley Mendelson, Lowell Miller on tuba and bass, and drummer Red Hawley
Miller brings in “Ol’ Man River” on tuba and Frank Assunto provides a solid solo before Maheu shows off his impressive playing during a hot version of the 1920s show tune.
