“Green Dolphin Street” was written in 1947 by Bronislau Kaper with words by Ned Washington as the theme for the film of the same title.

Difficult to sing, it’s usually performed as an instrumental and has become a favorite of improvisers.

Everyone’s taken a shot at it from Miles Davis and John Coltrane to Eric Dolphy, Milt Jackson, and Joe Pass and Ella Fitzgerald.

The “Sonny Rollins Quartet” perform live in Denmark in 1968.

Personnel:

Sonny Rollins, saxophone
Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, bass
Kenny Drew, piano
Albert Tootie Heath, drums
