Bassist and singer Esperanza Spalding has had a very impressive career thus far with the emphasis being on r&b-oriented material, originals, and some innovative concepts.
However this performance from 2016 is quite a bit different.
Performing at the White House before President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama (both of whom were clearly enjoying themselves), Spalding puts a lot of joy and hope into her singing.
She is joined by a group that includes tenor-saxophonist Patience Higgins, keyboardist Charlie Giordano, drummer Shawn Pelton, trumpeter Kiku Collins, and saxophonist Crisin Cioe.
