Once In A While – 1981

 Sarah Vaughan

Sassy is shown in a playful mood and still dazzling the audience

Always a superb singer, Sarah Vaughan displays two other talents during this performance from the 1981 Northsea Jazz Festival.

She starts off as a bit of a comedian, pretending that she does not know any songs, and she sits down at the piano and sounds impressive.

Sarah Vaughan then launches into a slow version of “Once In A While” and, after singing some of the lyrics, she engages in some remarkable scatting and displays her range, letting listeners know that there have been very few (past or present) who were on her level.
