Emmet’s Place, pianist Emmet Cohen’s weekly broadcast of performances that feature his trio with guests, has been one of the great jazz innovations to come out of the COVID period.

Many of these performances are classic and none are unworthy for Cohen is a versatile and very adaptable pianist who inspires each of his guests to play at their best.

For a hot version of Clare Fischer’s “Pensativa,” Cohen, bassist Phillip Norris, and drummer Joe Farnsworth are joined by the great hard bop trumpeter Brian Lynch and the powerful tenor-saxophonist Craig Handy.

While Cohen arguably takes solo honors, Lynch and Handy are also in excellent form.
