Happy Birthday Lori Williams

A birthday tribute to the versatile singer

Singer Lori Williams was born Jan. 22, 1967.

Since the 1990s, she has worked steadily as a singer, both as a lead and as a background vocalist.

Among her musical associations have been work with the Blackbyrds, Norman Brown, Tom Browne, Jonathan Butler, Terri Lyne Carrington, Stanley Clarke, George Duke, Slide Hampton, Winard Harper, and Stanley Jordan, among many others, and her music has ranged from straightahead jazz to pop/jazz and r&b.

In addition to her live performances, Lori Williams has worked as an educator, songwriter, producer and an actress in musical theater, performing at music festivals around the world and having many vocal jazz artist residencies at colleges.

She has also led six of her own CDs.

Lori Williams is featured on three different videos: a full set with the Chuck Redd Band (vibraphonist Redd, trumpeter Tom Williams, pianist Robert Redd, bassist James King, and drummer Lenny Robinson) from the annual Kennedy Christmas Day Jazz Jam, a soulful version of “Imagine” with the Poysdorf All-Star Band (keyboardist Renato Chicco, organist Erwin Schmidt, soprano saxophonist Bernard Wiesinger, guitarist Christian Havel, bassist Milan Nikolic, and drummer Joris Dudli) and her recent video “Too Late, It’s My Time.”
