Steve Davis has been a major straight ahead jazz trombonist ever since he joined Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers in 1989.
While he has worked with Jackie McLean, Chick Corea’s Origin, the Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Star Big Band, Benny Golson, One For All and other combos, Davis has also led around 20 albums of his own.
Since J.J. Johnson is one of his main inspirations, it seems only right that Steve Davis is featured on this 2017 appearance at New York’s Small’s Jazz Club performing a Johnson original, “Pinnacle.”
The cooking hard bop piece features Davis, trumpeter Josh Bruneau, guitarist Tony Davis, pianist Anthony Wonsey, bassist Ugonna Okegwo, and drummer Jason Tieman.
