An intriguing piano-guitar duet

Pianist Kris Davis may seem like an up-and-coming jazz star since she has been getting a lot of publicity in recent times, but the Canadian has been part of the New York jazz scene since 2001 and has already led 23 albums of her own.

An adventurous but frequently melodic pianist who emphasizes single-note lines over chords, she founded the Pyrocastic label in 2016, has taught at Berklee since 2019, and her album Diatom Ribbons (also from 2019) gained her much deserved recognition.

Kris Davis’ introspective composition “Prairie Eyes” is explored as a duet with guitarist Bill Frisell that may seem like a modern extension of the Bill Evans-Jim Hall recordings.
