The trailer for Henry Ferrini’s documentary film, “President of Beauty: The Life & Times of Lester Young.”
Writer and poet Amiri Baraka, saxophonists Lee Koonitz and Joe Lovano, pianist Junior Mance, and others reflect on Prez and his effect on them in life and in death in between historic clips and interview excerpts.
During the interview segments, Lester shares his nonconformist outlook on racism in the music industry. Later he offers his synopsis of the two different types of sounds produced by the tenor saxophone.
