Trumpeter Jaimie Branch passed away on Aug. 22, 2022 at the age of 39.
She was born in 1983 in Huntington, New York and began playing the trumpet when she was nine.
Branch graduated from the New England Conservatory Of Music and worked for periods in Baltimore and Chicago, both as a trumpeter and a sound engineer.
In 2015 she moved to Brooklyn and formed the bands Fly Or Die and Anteloper (duets with drummer Jason Nazary), impressing many with her trumpet explorations and her composing.
Branch appeared on over 50 albums (starting in 2006 and including associations with Keefe Jackson, Jason Ajemian, Ken Vandermark, James Brandon Lewis, Mars Williams, and David Murray) and led seven recordings of her own, carving out a place for herself in avant-garde jazz.
She is featured on “Theme 001” from early 2020 with her Fly or Die group, a quartet also including cellist Lester St. Louis, bassist Jason Ajemian, and drummer Chad Taylor.
