One of the greatest tenor-saxophonists of all time, Michael Brecker (1949-2007) was a masterful technician, a superb improviser, and possessor of his own sound.
While his unaccompanied version of “Naima” was a show-stopper with Herbie Hancock’s Directions In Music group in the early 2000’s, Brecker’s solo exploration of “’ Round Midnight” is not as well-known.
Balancing emotional outbursts with virtuosity, Michael Brecker creates quite a statement during this 1999 performance.
