Jason Moran is a major pianist who, in addition to his quirky originals, plays standards his own way.

Sometimes with his trio Bandwagon he will focus on a short part of a song for a long period, improvising at great length on a four-bar section.

However on this solo piano version of Thelonious Monk’s “’Round Midnight,” Jason Moran pays homage to Monk’s rich melody and gives it a thoughtful rendition.
