“Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend” was one of Marilyn Monroe’s most popular numbers from all of her movies.
For this unusual version, pianist Emmet Cohen, bassist Philip Norris, and drummer Kyle Poole give the song a boogaloo rhythm that makes the song sound fresh and new.
Tierney Sutton sings for two choruses, improvising with subtlety, and returns at the piece’s conclusion where she interacts with Cohen who plays percussively inside the piano.
Between the vocals, bassist Norris has an outstanding and inventive solo, and Cohen stretches out creatively.
