Milestones – 1997

Maynard Ferguson

The trumpeter plays an uptempo version of the Miles Davis standard

Maynard Ferguson (1928-2006) was not just a brilliant trumpeter who could hit stratospheric high notes with ease, but he was an educator and a jazz cheerleader who encouraged many younger musicians through the decades.

From 1997, Ferguson first talks a bit about jazz education with the host Ramsey Lewis, and then launches into an uptempo version of “Milestones.”

Sal Giorgianni takes an explosive spot on tenor, Ferguson hits a few blasts, and his Big Bop Nouveau band swings hard.
