Milt Jackson performs the Thelonious Monk standard “‘Round Midnight” at a 1990 concert in Japan.

Jackson, affectionately nicknamed “Bags,” was one of the most beloved vibraphone players in jazz. As leader of the Modern Jazz Quartet, a group that featured John Lewis, Percy Heath, and Connie Kay, Jackson honed his expressive and technically exquisite sound.
