Written by Billy Strayhorn and Duke Ellington in 1953, “Satin Doll” has received myriad subsequent covers, including by Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson and Frank Sinatra. Ellington’s orchestra often used the tune as a performance closer.

Alexander has collaborated with such greats as Milt Jackson and Dizzy Gillespie.
