In the mid-1970s, Downbeat sponsored a television special that focused on that year’s poll winners.
For a special version of Chick Corea’s “Spain,” the keyboardist was joined by flutist Hubert Laws, trombonist Bill Watrous, guitarist George Benson, bassist Stanley Clarke, and drummer Lenny White.
Each of the soloists (Laws, Watrous, Benson and Corea) sounds inspired by the setting and the results remind listeners what a great song “Spain” always was.
