Steve Davis has long kept the J.J. Johnson bebop trombone tradition alive although in his own voice.

For an engagement at Chris’ Jazz Café in Philadelphia, Davis was joined by altoist Steve Wilson, pianist Joe Block, bassist Alex Clay, and drummer Chris Beck.

Performed on June 19, 2021, one can feel the happiness that the musicians felt, finally getting to play in public again after the COVID shutdown.

Each of the musicians has their spots with pianist Block almost stealing the show during his inventive improvisation.
