One of the top jazz big bands since the late 1980s, the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra was always co-led by bassist-arranger John Clayton, the late altoist Jeff Clayton, and drummer Jeff Hamilton.
One of the strongest versions of the orchestra is featured on this 2011 concert version of Johnny Hodges” “Squatty Roo.”
Driven by Jeff Hamilton, there is one exciting solo after another from tenor-saxophonist Rickey Woodard, trombonist Ryan Porter, trumpeter Clay Jenkins, guitarist Graham Dechter, bassist Christoph Luty, pianist Tamir Hendelman, and trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos while the ensembles are raging.
Anyone that loves big band jazz will want to see this performance.
