Some beautiful playing by the flugelhornist

Clark Terry, who began on trumpet before he switched his focus to the flugelhorn around 1960, always had a very distinctive tone, one that could be considered the happiest sound in jazz.

During a 1967 European tour that was an attempt at a revival of Jazz At The Philharmonic, Terry was showcased on Hoagy Carmichael’s “Stardust” with backing from pianist Teddy Wilson, bassist Bob Cranshaw, and drummer Louie Bellson.

C.T. plays a beautiful melodic solo topped off by a memorable cadenza.
