Street Fighter Mas – 2019

Tenor-saxophonist Kamasi Washington has made quite a stir in recent years with his lengthy and adventurous projects, his passionate tenor playing (which is inspired a bit by Pharoah Sanders), and his ability to reach a large audience without altering his groove-oriented yet unpredictable music.

“Street Fighter Mas” is taken from a 2019 concert at the Apollo Theater and is part of a larger work.

Featured on this performance are trombonist Ryan Porter and pianist Cameron Graves (who has an outstanding spot) along with background singing.
