Tal Farlow (1921-98) and Barney Kessel (1923-2004) were two of the top jazz guitarists of the 1950s and both had careers that lasted for decades.
Despite that, they only recorded together once, on part of a session by George Wein’s Newport All-Stars in 1969.
Fortunately they did perform together on a few occasions including for this filmed version of “Strike Up the Band” that is probably from the late 1970s; Farlow solos first and takes honors although Kessel also fares well.
