Evan Christopher is well-known as a New Orleans clarinetist who has led groups paying tribute to Sidney Bechet and Django Reinhardt although he plays in his own style.
Like Bechet, Christopher knows a good melody when he hears it, and Horace Silver’s “Strollin’” certainly qualifies.
On his Aug. 30, 2020 LiveStream, performed in New Orleans at the height of the pandemic, Christopher performed “Strollin’” with the versatile pianist David Torkanowsky, adding beauty to the classic melody which he takes at a more relaxed tempo than it is usually heard.
