Swing The Blondes
Barbara Dennerlein
The great German organist swings hard on an original cooker
For the past 20 years, Barbara Dennerlein has been one of the top organists in jazz.
Unlike most organists, she did not start on the piano and was playing organ professionally from the age of 14.
While Dennerlein has at times experimented with different sounds and synthesizers, on this June 2007 appearance on a German late-night talk show, she cooks in a style reminiscent of Jimmy Smith and Joey De Francesco.
“Swing The Blondes,” which is a relative of the swing standard “Undecided,” gives her a chance to stretch out on an uptempo romp, accompanied by the show’s house band.
