The Big Band era may have ended in 1946 but there has been no shortage of large jazz orchestras during the 70 years since that time.

For proof of the viability of the current jazz scene, this 20-minute medley has excerpts from ten jazz orchestras that are currently making waves.

Seen and heard for about two minutes apiece are John Beasley’s Monk’estra, the Evan Sherman Big Band, the Maria Schneider Orchestra, Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society, the WDR Big Band, the Terraza 7 Big Band, UNT One O’Clock Lab Band, the Steven Feifke Big Band and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra.

It makes for a continuous performance, giving viewers an opportunity to sample some of the best.
