J.D. Allen has been one of modern jazz’s top tenor-saxophonists since the mid-1990s.
Allen has a big tone, an adventurous style, and can play both standards and freer improvisations quite credibly in his own voice.
Along the way he has worked with such notables as Betty Carter, George Cables, Ron Carter, Jack DeJohnette, David Murray, Wallace Roney, and Jeremy Pelt in addition to leading his own groups.
Allen has led at least 16 albums of his own including a long string for the Savant label.
Included are four long excerpts from his lengthy rendition of the suite-like piece including all of J.D Allen’s solos; his interaction with his sidemen in particularly makes the performance memorable.
