The “Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Big Band” are featured on “Jazz Casual” during the late 1960s.

The band organized by Thad Jones and Me Lewis in 1965 bearing their names, remained with its original members intact for the next twelve years. The popular orchestra would tour the Soviet Union in 1972.

In 1977 Thad Jones unexpectedly made a sudden move to Copenhagen, Demark relinquishing complete control of the group to percussionist and co-leader Mel Lewis who continued to direct the assembly until his death in 1990.
