Leon Russell’s “This Masquerade” was a giant hit for George Benson in the mid-1970s, resulting in him changing from being a top jazz guitarist who occasionally sang into a light r&bish singer who also played guitar.

This version, from 2003, is quite a bit different and a real surprise.

Nils Landgren does an excellent job with his singing and then is followed by tenor-saxophonist Michael Brecker, the short-lived pianist Esbjorn Danielsson (1964-2008) who became well-known as the leader of EST, Pat Metheny on guitar synthesizer, and Landgren on trombone before the latter takes a closing half-chorus vocal.

The group, performing in Scandinavia, also includes bassist Lars Danielsson and drummer Wolfgang Haffner.

Thanks are due to Bret Primack (the jazz video guy) for making this rare and unique video available.
