Paquito D’Rivera

While best known as an alto-saxophonist, Paquito D’Rivera is also one of the world’s top jazz clarinetists.

Born and raised in Cuba and a master of Afro-Cuban jazz, the versatile D’Rivera is an exciting bebop soloist with his own sound on his two instruments.

At a 2018 Bird With Strings concert, the string section took a break while D’Rivera on clarinet romped through the classic Latin tune “Tico Tico.”

Violinist Andrei Matorin is also in excellent form during his solo but this is mostly an outstanding showcase for Paquito D’Rivera’s high-powered and virtuosic clarinet playing.
