Double bassist Reginald “Reggie” Workman was born on June 26, 1937 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Workman has been a member of jazz groups led by luminaries that include Red Garland, Wayne Shorter and Gigi Gryce.

He joined the John Coltrane Quartet in 1961 and appeared on the seminal albums Olé Cotrane and Live at the Village Vanguard.

In 1962 he became a member of Art Blakey’s “Jazz Messengers” a group that nurtured his technical advancement.

Over the course of his long career Reggie has performed with James Moody, Yusef Lateef, Pharoah Sanders, Herbie Mann, Wayne Shorter and Thelonious Monk.

In addition he has also released seven albums as leader beginning with “Conversation” in 1977.

Reggie Workman is featured as a member of “Trio Three” at Vision Festival 17 in New York on June 16 2012.
