“Tico Tico” was composed back in 1917 by Zequinha de Abreau but was not recorded until 1931 and did not become a popular standard until the 1940s when organist Ethel Smith had a hit record and the tune appeared in no less than ten different Hollywood films.
Since then it has often been recorded in a variety of musical genres including by Brazilian groups and in jazz.
The masterful clarinetist Anat Cohen teams up with pianist Emmet Cohen, bassist Yasushi Nakamura, and drummer Joe Saylor for an energetic and happy version that includes two clarinet solos, an inventive spot for the pianist and a drum interlude by Saylor.
