Melanie Charles

Beautiful ballad singing

Melanie Charles, who is originally from Brooklyn, has been involved with a wide variety of projects throughout her career, some of which are political while others seek to widen the audience of jazz; she refuses to see the music as a museum piece.

On her performance with the 17-piece WDR Big Band, Melanie Charles is heard in a fairly conventional setting, singing a warm ballad composed by Carla Bley and Terri Lynne Carrington (who is in the big band playing drums).

During the Chuck Owen arrangement by Chuck Owen which includes some fine muted trumpet work by Ruud Breuls, Melanie Charles displays the beauty and warmth of her voice.
