One of the all-time great jazz pianists, McCoy Tyner influenced just about every pianist to come up since the early 1960s and, even during his later years when his health began to decline, he remained a powerful force.
Ravi Coltrane, the son of John Coltrane, has carved out his own musical identity even though he plays the same instruments (tenor and soprano0 as his father.
Tyner and Ravi Coltrane do not seem to have ever recorded together but fortunately this film clip exists.
With bassist Gerald Cannon and drummer Montez Coleman, the quartet performs the pianist’s “Walk Spirit, Talk Spirit” with plenty of spirit and energy.
