Warning: It’s not jazz

…But it will open your ears

Analysis of the Beatles by Howard Goodall

Everyone – including many jazz musicians – loves the Beatles.

Why?

Not the mop top and “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” stuff, but the Lennon and McCartney compositions that came later.

Covered by many jazz musicians, respected by many, many more, there was a magic in their tunes.

How did they do it?

I hope someday someone will come along and do similar expositions on Louis Armstrong and Charlie Parker and Theolonious Monk and Ornette Coleman, but for now this is what we’ve got. Let’s work with it.
