A brilliant musician who was not only a top-notch tenor-saxophonist but a master of the flute and oboe, Yusef Lateef (1920-2013) always played creative music in his own voice throughout his long career.

From 1972, Lateef plays beautifully on flute during a version of “Yesterdays” in which he is joined by pianist Kenny Barron, bassist Bob Cunningham, and drummer Albert “Tootie” Heath.

Taken at a slower than usual tempo, Yusef Lateef caresses the melody of “Yesterdays” while occasionally displaying the influence of Eastern music.
