You Asked For It was a popular television series in the 1950s that featured audience members writing in and telling what they would like to see on the show.

In 1953, a viewer requested a Dixieland all-star group from New Orleans and he got his wish.

Trombonist Jack Teagarden, trumpeter Charlie Teagarden, clarinetist Matty Matlock, tenor-saxophonist Eddie Miller, pianist Stan Wrightsman, bassist Phil Stephens, and drummer Nick Fatool were gathered together, performing “Tin Roof Blues” and an ultimately explosive version of “Struttin’ With Some Barbecue.”

Fortunately a rare kinescope was made that saves their portion of the program, and the results show how exciting trad jazz can be when played by musicians of this caliber.
