Big Joe Williams’ started making a living playing music at a young age for the parties and dances of field hands. Williams developed his own type of guitar with nine-strings and was among the first delta bluesmen to use amplification. His extensive travels brought him through many towns and cities and to Europe and Japan but he returned to the Mississippi delta during his final years.
