Robert Wilkins (guitar & vocals) made this record in Memphis, Tennessee during February 1930.

Robert Wilkins was a contemporary of Furry Lewis playing Beal St. in Memphis during the 1920s. He reinforced his popularity by appearing on local radio in 1927. Unlike other blues musicians Wilkins preferred to perform alone or with, at the most, a single accompanist. One reason for this might have been his somewhat unpredictable style which still intrigues listeners today.

Remembered as the ‘Original Rollin’ Stone’, Wilkins rambled throughout Memphis and the Mississippi delta playing at rowdy gambling spots like Jim Canan’s. His 1928 record containing “Rolling Stone” parts 1 & 2 was the inspiration for the rock band of the same name.
