Who?
Nappy Brown
1999 Pori Jazz Festival
R&B icon Nappy Brown performs at the Pori Jazz Festival in Pori, Finland on July 15, 1999 backed by Kari Loikala (guitar), Teemu Tolonen (trombone), Pasi Lehtoranta (saxophone), Antti Kamarainen (piano), Lasse Sirkko (bass), and Tomi Salonen (drums).
Nappy Brown like so many began his career singing gospel music before switching to R&B. He became a instantiate R&B hit maker with an unmistakable style his cart toppers include the 1955 singles “Don’t Be Angry” and “Night Time Is the Right Time.” Together with his contemporaries Little Richard, Chuck Berry, and Fats Domino he was among the first African American pop artists to gain mainstream popularity.
