After gaining popularity among audiences on Chicago’s West and South sides during the early 1950s, Otis Rush released eight singles on Cobra Records between 1956 and 1958, some featuring Ike Turner.

In the 1960s Otis began to venture outside of Chicago touring other U.S. cities and traveled to Europe with the American Folk Blues Festival where he was introduced to a brand new audience.

His first full length LP “Mourning in the Morning”, produced by Mike Bloomfield, was released on Cotillion Records in 1969.
