John Hammond Jr. (guitar, vocals, & harmonica) performs as a special guest on the Australian TV show “After Dark” on March 25, 1985.
An active blues musician since the early 1960s John Hammond Jr. began playing guitar in high school influenced by the recordings of Jimmy Reed. He is the son of the renown record producer and civil rights advocate John Hammond Sr. who was responsible for organizing the first From Spirituals to Swing concert in 1938 which introduced bluesman Big Bill Broonzy and many others to mainstream society. In the early 1990s John Hammond Jr. hosted a television documentary detailing the life of a legendary Delta bluesman “The Search for Robert Johnson.” He has played with many of the greats and continues to keep traditional blues alive through his music.
