Hard To Leave You Alone

Carey & Lurrie Bell

Bell’s harp

Carey Bell (harmonica & vocals), in joined on stage by his son Lurrie Bell (guitar) in Chicago in 2006.

Arriving in Chicago in 1956 at a time when the demand for harmonica players had diminished overshadowed by the popularity of the amplified electric guitar Carey Bell was tutored on his instrument by Big Walter Horton. To further improve his chance of landing gigs his friend Hound Dog Taylor taught him the electric bass. Carey performed at clubs on Chicago’s West side during the 1960s with guitarist Eddie Taylor and toured Europe with the American Folk Blues Festival in 1969. His son Lurrie became a guitarist and the pair performed together frequently during his later years.
