Robert Johnson (vocals & guitar) made this recording in San Antonio, Texas on Monday November 23, 1936. The song an original carefully writing to mirror other blues hits of the day was the first Johnson chose to record. He cut two takes of the song that day, this one featuring his only recorded solo and another one without it.
