Sonny Boy Williamson II (harmonica & vocals) performs “Nine Below Zero” backed on by Otis Spann (piano), during a 1963 concert on the American Folk Blues Festival tour.

Sonny Boy Williamson II (aka Alex “Rice” Miller) lived in the delta where he worked as sharecropper. In his travels around Mississippi and Arkansas beginning in the 1930’s he encountered blues greats Big Joe Williams, Elmore James, and Robert Lockwood Jr., who would play guitar on his later Checker Records sides. During this period he was also associated with the legendary Robert Johnson.
